January 7, 2018 - We begin our 150th Jubilee Year of faith with a prayer service.

We are both proud and humbled to announce that the parish of St. Mary Catholic Church is celebrating our 150th Anniversary during 2018.  In the past 150 years we have grown from a small group of families celebrating Mass at John Finn’s home to a parish church dedicated in 1868 resulting in a congregation of 140 families celebrating Mass in our current church, which was dedicated in 1999.

We perform good works day in and day out for each other and our surrounding community.  God has blessed us with the time, talent and treasure to fulfill His will for our community and we are thankful for His many blessings.  As we travel through our 150th year as a Catholic community we will celebrate, rejoice, and offer thanks in a variety of ways to both our parishioners and our community at large.     

In addition to liturgical activities designed to deepen our faith and commitment to our God, we have also planned projects designed to reach out to and assist the community in which we live.   We are undertaking tasks to improve our physical plant, and of course, there will be social activities!

As a tribute to our Blessed Mother, to whom our parish is dedicated, plans were made to construct a grotto in a garden outside the Church. The Ladies’ Guild purchased a statue of Mary, and also the stone needed to form a cave-like structure for the statue. The Building and Grounds Committee hired a stonemason, Mr. Bronson Norwood, to assemble the grotto and finish it with a stone façade. St. Mary’s Men’s Club had the task of landscaping and maintaining the garden surrounding the grotto.

The result is a beautiful tribute to Our Lady, clearly visible as you approach the door of the Church. The grotto was dedicated with a Blessing at all three Masses on Mother’s Day weekend, May 10 & 11.
